Description: This is a posting I had been hoping to avoid. But because there is a posting of this out there on YT now that cuts off in the middle of the song and the sound quality is rather poor, it's also way too slow, I thought I'd promote the posting on the blog of this. This song is originally 19:30 minutes long and can be downloaded here: http://wrldsrv.blogspot.com/2008/11/our-candidate.html This was posted a few days before Obama was elected. For this posting on YT, I have cut out nearly nine minutes of the middle part.. So, basically, there's no musical information missing, only a long list of people who should be voting for Mobutu, as if anybody had a choice anyway. During the 1980's, when this song was still relatively new, I was never too fond of it. And I still don't think it is one of Franco's all-time classics. (Interesting to note, however, is the use of muted trumpets, which I think is extremely rare in O.K. Jazz arranging.) 25 Years after it's release though, this song probably sounds better to my ears than it did initially, because it's still infinitely much better than all that crap that passes for music that is "created" nowadays. Because much of that seems to have lost any connection to the Congolese soil, seems to be "rooted" in European concrete if rooted anywhere at all. So I would rather use the word "produced" in stead of "created", because most of it is not art, but mere product. So, here it is. If you like it, get the complete version at the address above. Vocals: Luambo Makiadi (note that the international name Franco is not to be found anywhere on this release, it was intended for the Zairean market exclusively), Ntesa Dalienst, Josky Kiambukuta, Madilu System. Guitars: Mpudi Decca (bass), Gégé Mangaya (rhythm), Luambo Makiadi (mi-solo), Gerry Dialungana (otherwise Nedule aka Papa Noel) (solo). Percussion: Bosuma Dessoin.
